Back in 1966, a brand-new Lockheed P-3 Orion came with pencil sharpeners built in! In the days before computer automation and glass cockpits, a lot of work was done on paper so sharpeners came in handy.
For more than 50 years the RNZAF’s fleet of six Orions patrolled and protected our coastlines and oceans, carrying out thousands of search and rescue missions, and saving countless lives.
The 03 pencil sharpener is our homage to NZ4203 – the RNZAF’s last Orion which has been conserved at our museum.
