Bequests

The Air Force Museum of New Zealand is run by the RNZAF Museum Trust Board Incorporated (CC20363) a not-for-profit trust and is a registered charity.

Our Roll of Honour records the names of the more than 4,600 New Zealanders who have lost their lives while in the service of the RNZAF or other air forces around the world.

As a memorial, it is our intention to maintain free entry to our spaces for those who wish to come here for remembrance. This means we are reliant on donations and bequests to keep operating.

Why a bequest

By leaving a bequest in your will, you help secure the future of our museum and ensure the more than 1 million objects in our collection continue to be preserved for future generations. It is a meaningful way to ensure your giving continues beyond your lifetime and creates a lasting legacy that reflects your generosity and values.

For those who were trained by the RNZAF, served New Zealand, or have a personal connection to our Air Force, a bequest is also a way to honour that service and contribute to the preservation of its history.

You may also wish to consider making a gift during your lifetime, allowing you to see the difference your support makes today. Lifetime gifts help us protect our taonga, expand our exhibitions, and care for our collection, while giving you the opportunity to witness the impact of your generosity firsthand.

How to make a bequest

There are several ways you can remember the Air Force Museum of New Zealand (registered as the RNZAF Museum Trust Board (CC20363) in your will:

  • a specific dollar amount
  • a percentage of your estate
  • a specific gift, asset, or property
  • the residue of your estate

We recommend that you consult your lawyer, who can help include a paragraph in your existing will, usually without needing to create a new document.

A suggestion for the wording is:

“I hereby bequeath to the RNZAF Museum Trust Board, free of all taxes, duties and expenses, – the sum of $………. [or “the residue of my estate”] [or a description of assets or property] [or ……% of my estate] for the general purposes of the museum.
The board’s receipt signed by one of the Trustees shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Trustee(s) who shall not be bound to see to the application thereof”
