School Holiday Programmes
Our school holiday programme is returning in July 2025 with 2 programmes:
Week 1, 30th June – 4th July, 10-14yrs / 8:30-12:30pm, Sub-Zero Hercules in Antarctica Diorama Workshop, book now
Week 2, 7th July – 11th July, 5-12yrs / 8:30-3:00pm, Sub-Zero Survive Antarctica, book now
How it works
- Drop-off 8:30am – Pick-up 12:30pm, Week 1. Drop-off 8:30am – Pick-up 3:00pm Week 2
- Daily or weekly bookings welcome (no half day bookings available).
- 10 children maximum per day week 1. 20 children maximum per day week 2.
- We offer a daily structured programme throughout the week with a focus on creativity and learning new skills.
- Daily warm up games for all children to enjoy, so they get to know the museum and their fellow holiday programme friends.
- Free play times throughout each day to allow children to relax or have more physical fun.
- Set times for breaks and lunchtimes.
- Bring your own water bottle, hat, snacks, and lunch.
- Make sure you wear clothes and sturdy shoes for moving around.
- Parents’ Handbook will be available on booking.
*We are an OSCAR-approved holiday programme provider. You may be entitled to receive an OSCAR subsidy for your child’s attendance
on this programme.

Sub-Zero Hercules in Antarctica Diorama Workshop
30th June to 4th July 2025
10 – 14 yrs / 8.30am-12.30pm
10 Tamariki / Children per day max
Take part in this 5-half day diorama workshop, creating an Antarctic landscape for our C-130H Hercules to land on right next to Scott Base, with cargo and icebergs.
This week-long, half-day holiday programme focuses on making and creating, using professional model making items dedicated to depicting recreations.
So, bring your nimble fingers, keen eyes, and creativity. Let’s make all things Herc!
You need to attend all 5 days to be able to complete the Sub-Zero – Hercules in Antarctica Diorama.
Bookings are essential with places limited to 10 children each day.

Sub-Zero Survive Antarctica
7–11 July 2025
Tamariki aged 5 to 12 can join us for a 5-day snow-plosion of fun exploring chilly Antarctica! Discover how members of the RNZAF survive on the coldest place on earth.
Day 1 – Aircraft on the Ice: The Air Force in Antarctica
Learn about the different aircraft that fly in Antarctica and how they get there. Get the chance to land a plane in your very own snowscape.
Day 2 – Explorers and Scientists: Discovering Antarctica
Learn about the explorers and scientists that have pushed the boundaries of what is possible. Decide what you would pack on a sledge before you go out exploring.
Day 3 – Life without Fur: How people keep warm
Learn how people survive in Antarctica without fur or blubber. Work together and create a snowsuit that could help keep you warm.
Day 4 – Curious Critters: Animals in Antarctica
Learn about the animals that populate Antarctica. Create your own inquisitive penguin and see it run away.
Day 5 – Scott Base: A Kiwi’s home away from home
Learn about New Zealand’s research station. Build a snow hut inspired by the base.
