Titiro! Take in the scale of our Tall Tails exhibition and then begin a museum hunt to discover a trail of tails! Will you be able to spot a golden tail, identify a skeleton tail or recognise a vampire’s tail?
On this hunt you are looking for tails on aircraft as well as in the details of smaller objects on display. Collect points for every tail found and increase your chances winning a tour inside our C-130H Hercules!

How do museum hunts work?
Museum hunts are available to purchase any time from our Welcome Desk. Our team will help you get started with the first fun trail clue. You can choose your hunt style – we have 2 different hunt missions, suitable for ages 4-12.
Our team enjoys creating museum hunt missions so much that new hunts launch at the beginning of every school holiday! Purchasing a museum hunt is one way you can support us on our own mission – to continue to preserve and share New Zealand’s military aviation history.

Museum hunt rewards
Once you’ve completed the hunt trail, make sure you collect your completion stamp and sticker. You’re also eligible to enter the draw to win a tour inside our C-130H Hercules!
Museum entry is free and hunts are just $5 each
You can purchase hunts from the Welcome Desk any time.
Museum Hunt Prize Draw – Terms & Conditions
Everyone who completes a museum hunt this period (4 July – 25 September 2026) goes in the draw to win an exclusive tour inside our C-130H Hercules with a Hercules pilot as your guide. The tour includes the aircraft’s cockpit and cargo areas, for up to six people in a family group, and lasts one hour. Please note the cockpit is accessed via stairs and requires a good degree of mobility. The tour will be during museum hours on a mutually agreed date prior to 1 January 2027 and is not transferrable.
One entry per museum hunt purchase, with bonus entries available. Two prize winners will be drawn at random on the 20 July 2026 and 25 September 2026 respectively. If any winner is unable to be contacted, or no response is received within 48 hours, another draw will take place to select a new winner from the existing entries. The prize is not able to be exchanged or transferred.
This competition is not open to employees or volunteers of the Air Force Museum of New Zealand and their dependents.
