We’re calling on New Zealanders – individuals, families, businesses, and organisations – to join us.
With your support, these icons of service will continue to inspire, educate, and unite our communities for generations to come.

A national effort for national icons
The total project cost is $20 million. Christchurch City Council has committed $5 million, and the Museum is seeking Crown support alongside philanthropic and corporate contributions. Strong public backing and project readiness mean the Exhibition Hall is well positioned to proceed once full funding is secured.
Concept design and initial costings have been completed by Calder Stewart, providing confidence in the scope, feasibility, and delivery of the project. Ongoing planning and technical work is shaping an Exhibition Hall that will meet rigorous standards of conservation, sustainability, and accessibility.
Christchurch City Council is thrilled to support the Air Force Museum of New Zealand with a $5 million contribution toward the development of a new exhibition hall to house the Orion and Hercules aircraft.
These iconic aircraft aren’t just symbols of New Zealand’s aviation history—they’re national treasures that have proudly served our country.
This investment helps preserve a key part of our heritage, boost the local economy through tourism and education, and pay tribute to the legacy of service and excellence these aircraft represent.
