Summer Holiday Programmes
Looking for something interesting for the kids to do this summer holiday? The Air Force Museum has two fun filled holiday programmes available in January 2025. Bookings are opening soon for:
6-9 January: Create a flying ace diorama
Over four morning sessions work towards creating your own airfield diorama, learning all about model making techniques.
Suitable for model makers and keen crafters aged 10-14.

20-23 January: Pilots, planes and parachutes
Attention young pilots – have fun with planes and parachutes with us. There will be chances to board our historic aircraft and loads of fun games and activities to test your skills. This is suitable for ages 5-12 and is an OSCAR-endorsed programme.

New! Create a WW1 Flying Ace Diorama*
6-9 January 2025
In this special programme offering, your tamariki will spend four morning sessions, creating their own World War One airfield diorama using professional model-making supplies and techniques. These sessions are suitable for model makers and keen crafters aged 10-14.
*We are an OSCAR-approved holiday programme provider. You may be entitled to receive an OSCAR subsidy for your child’s attendance
on this programme.
How it works
- Drop-off at the museum at 8:30am and pick-up at 12:30pm.
- The diorama will be completed over four morning sessions
- Your booking is for the full four-session programme. Daily bookings are not possible for this option.
- The programme cost is $100 including all model-making supplies.
- Suitable for ages 10-14.
- Bookings for this programme are capped at 10 children.
- Parents’ Handbook will be available on booking.
Pilots, planes and parachutes*
20-23 January 2025
Just prior to term one kicking off, we’re offering four fun supervised programme days in January.
We want enthusiastic and creative, tamariki aged 5 to 12 to join us for some holiday fun with planes and parachutes! There’ll be special opportunities to board our historic aircraft, and lots of fun games and activities to test your pilot skills. Bookings are essential with places limited to 20 children each day.

How it works
- Drop-off 8:30am – Pick-up 3:00pm.
- Daily or weekly bookings welcome (no half day bookings available).
- Two age groups: 5 to 8-year-olds and 9 to 12-year-olds.
- 20 children maximum per day.
- We offer a daily structured programme throughout the week with a focus on creativity and learning new skills.
- Daily warm up games for all children to enjoy, so they get to know the museum and their fellow holiday programme friends.
- Free play times throughout each day to allow children to relax or have more physical fun.
- Set times for breaks and lunchtimes.
- Bring your own water bottle, snacks, and lunch.
- Parents’ Handbook will be available on booking.
